cottsdale lays squarely within
the " Valley of the Sun " at the
upper reaches of the Sonoran
Desert, and is the only place in
the world where the distinctive
saguaro cactus grows in the wild. It's
also home to the Sonoran sidewinder, a
poisonous viper, and the North American
bobcat (known to stalk jackrabbits,
varmints and unwary travelers-more
on that last one later).
Scottsdale proper is home to more
than 50 golf courses, boasts the most
destination spas per capita of any city
in the United States, and is blessed with
agreeable temperatures and ample sunshine
all winter long. In 2006, the Robb
Report called Scottsdale " America's Best
Place to Live for Golf. "
