TIPS FROM THE PROS CLUBFACE IN " TOE UP " POSITION * BY MIKE BARGE * Mike Barge is the director of instruction at Hazeltine National GC and a Class A member of the PGA of America. Finding Your Better Half When it comes to the backswing, there's plenty to learn at the halfway point. I 8 'm a believer in teaching the swing as a swing-not a series of positions that need to be found. That said, if there is one position I don't want to stray far from, it's halfway in the backswing. Starting the swing correctly goes a long way toward MINNESOTAGOLFER Fall 2017 achieving the desired result of the shot- and having to make the least amount of adjustments in the downswing. In this position (see photo), the clubface should not be overly closed or open, but rather in a " toe up " position. Having the shaft parallel to your target line gives you a better chance of seeing this position again on the downswing. I see many good players rehearsing this move in their pre-shot routine. Try it and see if it helps you with your own swing. www.mngolf.org PHOTO BY MATT SEEFELDThttp://www.mngolf.org
