itting an uphill tee shot is not desirable for most
golfers, but it is mandatory at Green Valley No. 6.
The hole's three tees each have been dug out of a
swamp some 60 feet below the green, and the tee shot must
carry water in addition to the hill. The undulating green is
sloped back-to-front. It has pine trees right, a brush-covered
hill left and a drop-off to OB behind.
At 192-yards uphill to a well-guarded green, accuracy is at
a premium. There is room in front to hit and roll it up, but a
false front may cause the ball to fall back off the putting surface.
" The only thing you can do to be safe is to go straight at
the hole, and if you are short, it is still wide open, " says head
pro and superintendent Michael Levin. -J.O.

ften one feature can dominate a hole and dictate
how you play it. At Glen Lake No. 6, the hole doglegs
slightly left near the 150-yard mark, where a
bunker on each side of the fairway can spell doom.
To have success, you must hit your approach from the fairway,
because the green, which is relatively fl at, is guarded by a
pot bunker on the right, and to the left, a thick group of trees
down in a swale called " death valley. "
" Hit the club that will leave you about 150 in, so you don't
bring the bunkers into play, " says operations supervisor
Mark Hill. " The bunkers are huge and deep. You can't even
see the green if you are in the left one because of a big face
