>> Tips from the Pros Perfect Finish Practice this drill to better your fi nish and your ball fl ight. By Dee Forsberg | Photos by Peter Wong E very golfer seeks a repeating pattern to his or her ball fl ight, and the most desirable is a high and soft draw. This pattern produces the most distance and its boring trajectory allows the ball to hold its line best in our " gusty " Minnesota springs. While the fi nish isn't the only ingredient that enables a player to control the direction of his or her shot, it does have tremendous infl uence on what occurs at impact. Your goal when hitting a draw is to achieve a natural release of the club that is free of tension. That means your body and club will swing into impact and on through to the fi nish correctly. If at impact the clubface is held open, a release won't occur, and the fi nish position will refl ect this. Having a " go-to " swing key that allows you to fi nish perfectly will enable you to achieve a repeating ball fl ight pattern. Practice the following drill to help you achieve a perfect fi nish: s 0LACE A TEE INTO THE HOLE IN THE CAP OF YOUR GRIP s 3WING THE CLUB INTO THE lNISH WHERE THE TEE points away from your left ear (for right-handers) at a right angle. Tee point drill s &URTHER CHECKS WOULD HAVE THE LEFT PALM FACING forward and the right palm back, and your eyes looking over your right arm as you follow the height and fl ight of the shot.
