Three steps to
improve your
green-reading
skills.

A
general rule to remember
when reading
greens is that 90 percent
of all greens tilt back to the
fairway. Only two, maybe three,
greens break from front to back
(high to low) on any given round.
With that in mind, start reading
the green by the cup. First,
when you walk off the putt to
learn the distance, use your feet
to feel the levelness of the putt.
Second, keep in mind that 75
percent of the break happens
within 25 percent of the distance
to the hole. On the way
back to your ball, stop halfway
on the low-side to get the big
picture. Finally, after taking in
all the information, determine
your starting line from behind
the ball.
