Q How can our golf club encourage peer review?
A One way is to post the scoring records of all
members, and make access to these records readily
available, posted in areas like the score-posting
kiosk in the clubhouse, and the bulletin board in
the men's and women's locker rooms.
Another option is to set up a Handicap Committee
suggestion box. Members who notice scoring
irregularities can alert the Handicap Committee,
which is obliged to review the scoring records of the
golfer in question.
Q Our golf club wants to host a Tee It Forward
tournament for members, but the forward tees
are not rated for the guys-what do we do?
A Use the nearest set of tees with USGA Course
and Slope Ratings for men, calculate the difference in total yardages, and alter
the ratings according to the adjustment tables found within the USGA Handicap
System manual (section 5-2g). This is a temporary solution to allow your members
who " Tee It Forward " from unrated tees to post their scores.

In the previous issue of Minnesota Golfer,
we asked: Who was the fi rst female
competitor to be invited to play in the
Minnesota Golf Champions?
Patty Berg was a popular response,
but not the correct one. It was Julie
Hennessy, of Lewiston, Minn. She was
invited to play in the 1995 Minnesota
Golf Champions by virtue of her win at
the '94 MN PGA Assistant's Championship.
Hennessy won the Class A high school
tournament in 1982, later captained
the University of Minnesota's women's
golf team, and made her way on to the
LPGA Tour. She has played in two U.S.
Women's Opens. The Lewiston-Altura
High School girls' team won the Class
A title in 2011 with Hennessy as coach.
Currently in her fourth year as head
coach of the Winona State women's golf
team, Hennessy, 49, also fi nds the time to
serve as the head golf professional at the
Lewiston Country Club.
