A Royal Redesign
On March 15, Hollis Cavner, founder
of the 3M Championship tournament
at TPC of the Twin Cities,
announced that his company, HC
Golf Course Development, has purchased
the former Tartan Park Golf
Course in Lake Elmo. The development,
to be called the Royal Golf
Club at Lake Elmo, features the
course design team of Arnold Palmer
and Annika Sorenstam.
According to Cavner, the deal was
seven years in the making, but it was
worth the wait to acquire what he
called " the greatest piece of property
in the Twin Cities. "
Cavner says the current 27-hole
course will be reduced to 18 holes
(called The King & The Queen). The
LEED-certifi ed property will be designed
to maintain maximum green
space and wetlands, made familyfriendly
with playability and affordable
pricing for all golfers-and it
will be open to the public.
For Sorenstam, the project is her
fi rst design in the U.S. and she was
immediately attracted to the beauty
of the land. " It's just very natural,
very quiet out here, " Sorenstam said
of the 477-acre property. " I like the
peace out here. It reminds
me of my home-in
Stockholm. "
Sorenstam and
Palmer will each
design nine
holes on the
course-which
is expected to
be open for play
in the summer
of 2017.
