MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSES ARE VITAL ASSETS IN THEIR HOME COMMUNITIES.

unicipal golf has a special niche in Minnesota's
golf history. " Munis " are often the place where
kids take their first lesson and play their first
round of golf. Munis host leagues of all shapes
and forms: men's, women's, coed, junior, physically limited
and more. Needless to say, municipal golf courses are important
assets in many communities.
On the heels of arguably the most exciting Ryder Cup in history
at Hazeltine National Golf Club last year, many metroarea
munis are still enjoying the glow of hosting players in town
for the matches. John Kellin, head professional at Chaska Town
Course, says, " We had players from foreign countries, most
states; the course was in great condition and the weather was
excellent, so we expect some additional benefit. "
At Braemar Golf Course in Edina-one of the top munis in
Minnesota and top 75 in the U.S.-the Academy 9 and driving
range remain open while the three championship nines undergo
renovation, scheduled to reopen in 2018.
