Minnesota Caddies Earn Evans Scholarships
T
welve Minnesota caddies were awarded the Evans
Scholarship, a full housing and tuition college grant
(valued at more than $100,000) offered to golf caddies,
following a fi nal selection interview Feb. 15 at The
Minikahda Club. The dozen caddies begin college in the fall at
the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
" Each of these deserving Evans Scholars epitomizes what
our program has been about since its creation in 1930, " said
WGA Chairman Frank Morley. " Their dedication, hard work
and sacrifi ce is humbling, and we are honored to be able to
help them pursue their dreams. "
Currently, a record 965 caddies are enrolled in 19 universities
across the nation as Evans Scholars, including the University of
Minnesota, home to one of 15 campus scholar houses. More
than 10,600 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since
the program was founded by famed Chicago amateur golfer
Charles " Chick " Evans Jr. after his 1916 U.S. Open victory at
The Minikahda Club.

USGA Premieres All-new Senior Women's Open
Sectional qualifying will be conducted June 12 at Bent Creek Golf Club in Eden Prairie for
the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open Championship. Entries are open to any female
professional or amateur golfer with a Handicap Index not exceeding 7.4, who are at least
50 years of age on or before July 12 -the start of the championship at Chicago Golf Club in
Wheaton, Ill. Entries are due May 23.
