Last year was prologue to an exciting 2022 high school
golf season-here's who to watch.

ollowing a year hiatus in 2020, the State High School
Golf Tournament, at the conclusion of the 2021 high
school golf season, returned as a familiar tradition
in Minnesota. Coaches, families and golf enthusiasts
crowded courses for two days in June to watch the state's best
compete as they've done (almost) every year since the tournament
began in 1928, when St. Paul Johnson's Stan Clasen
edged Minneapolis West's Phil Halverson by one stroke.
CLASS AAA
The Maple Grove H.S. Crimson claimed a second team title
in three seasons in 2021 at Bunker Hills. Maple Grove tallied a

16-stroke victory over the Edina Hornets after winning the fi rst
title in school history in 2018, then defeating Alexandria and
St. Thomas Academy by seven strokes. Maple Grove will face a
tough challenge getting back to Bunker Hills this June, however,
losing fi ve of its six starting golfers from last year's state tournament
team.
The Hornets lost just one player from last season's starting
lineup. Led by senior Jack Wetzel, junior Owen Nielson and
freshman Torger Ohe, Edina will enter the season as a perennial
favorite.
Finishing the season as the state's third-ranked team in 2021,
Alexandria stumbled during the postseason to fi nish fi fth at the
