Minnesota Youth on Course Booms
MNYOC, a junior golf program
launched in Northern California in 2006
and adopted by the Minnesota Golf
Association in 2017, has subsidized more
than 1 million rounds of golf in the U.S.
For $15 a youth golfer (ages 6 to 18) can
join the program at youthoncourse.org
and play golf for $5 or less at more than
1,700 participating courses around the
country, and 80-plus participating public
golf courses in Minnesota. A number of
notable high-profi le facilities are on the
list including Chambers Bay, Pinehurst
Resort, Poppy Hills and Spanish Bay.
" Youth on Course participation has
boomed in Minnesota over the last two
years providing, more than 13,000 kids
access to affordable golf, " says Joel
Comstock, director of MNYOC. " The
program, which was mainly subsidized
by the MGA Foundation and donations
from members and volunteers, offered
kids a physical and mental break on
the golf course from the isolation
and stress brought about because of
the pandemic. "
Comstock notes that MNYOC rounds
exceeded 110,000 in 2021.
The MGA will be hosting two 100
Hole Hike fundraising events September
13 and 26, respectively, at the Oak Glen
Executive Golf Course, in Stillwater, and
the Lafayette Club, in Minnetonka Beach.

YOC College Scholars
Did you know that Youth on Course
offers $250,000 in college scholarships
annually? To qualify, the student must
be a YOC member, a full-time senior
in high school, have a minimum GPA
of 3.0, be accepted to a four-year
college or university and prove fi nancial
need and merit. Three Minnesotans
have been awarded YOC scholarships:
Michelle Yang, Woodbury High School,
Taylor Gonsalez, Henry Sibley High
School, and Jack Traxler, Cretin-Derham
High School.
