Aumock Takes on
Another Leadership Role
Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents Association
Executive Director Chris Aumock will be busy this
season. Former Superintendent Aumock took the association's
top job in March of 2022 and was named the
new executive director of the Midwest Golf Course
Owners Association this past February. And he sees it
as a good fit.
" I have always strived to help facilitate dialogue
between multiple groups, " he says. " Whether that's owners
and superintendents, or either of them with golfers,
I believe I can offer some of those necessary skills to
both groups. "
Aumock says the goals of the groups are very similar, with each association providing
information and access to members through education, networking and value opportunities.
Wearing both hats will offer some efficiencies.
" I do see some redundancy in basic goals, like creating member value, increasing
membership numbers and advocacy efforts, " Aumock says. " For me, having access to
more golf industry professionals throughout our state can only help us better educate
and inform golf industry professionals with fuller, more complete perspectives. "

National Golf
Development
T Program
he USGA launched the U.S. National
Golf Development Program, creating
the country's first unified pathway to
guide America's top players, starting
with competitive junior golf all the way
to the professional ranks. The program
will identify, train, develop, fund and
support the nation's top junior players
to ensure that American golf is a global
leader in the game. There will also be a
concerted effort to reach players from
underrepresented communities to
ensure proper resources are available
in order to progress within the game.
Mike Whan, USGA CEO, said via a
he MGA announced March 20 that, effective with the
2023 golf season, Kris Oftedahl has been named the
Women's Golf Manager. In this role, he will be responsible
for women's and girls' MGA championships, special
events and tournaments, and USGA women's qualifiers.
He is also responsible for executing programs and initiatives
as identified by the women's golf committee.
Oftedahl brings more than 50 years of experience in
competitive golf, 30 years of experience in the golf business
and 25 years as a high school coach. Oftedahl is currently a math teacher at the Hill
Murray School, where he is the head golf coach. His schedule as a teacher has allowed
him to work at various golf courses during the summer months. He has worked at five
different golf courses in positions in the pro shop, as a caddie manager, a starter/ranger
and on the maintenance crew. He has also served on the Rules Committee for sectional
and regional play in high school events.

diverse, high-potential talent. "
The development program will focus
on six key pillars: talent identification,
access to competition, national teams,
athlete resources, player development
and relations, and athlete financial
support. There will be a grant program
to assist with entry fees, travel, coaching
costs, golf course access, equipment
and more. Starting in 2023, the
grant program will support 50 juniors
and will grow every year with the goal
of supporting 1,000 juniors across the
country in 2027.
