n longer holes, you can
make up for a bad shot,
but on a par 3, one mis-hit
can sink you-which will happen on
Forest Hills No. 13.
" It's a solid par 3, " says head pro
Brian Steinke. " It requires you to hit a
solid golf shot. If you don't, it is tough
to make par. "
From an elevated tee, the shot is slightly downhill over a
pond to a large, back-to-front sloping green. A bunker guards
the green on the front left. The prevailing wind is hurting,
so take enough club to carry your shot to the green, but
below the hole.
" I am always leery of that bunker, " says Steinke. " I aim to
the right, and if I draw it back into the middle of the green,
great. If it stays out to the right, usually it is not that bad of a
chip. " -J.O.

Field's diffi cult greens-and No. 8 is a
prime example.
" Infl uence of the mounding, hillsides
and what's behind the greens is there, " says
head pro David Richardson. " No. 8 is a long, straight par 3 that
doesn't have any hazards on it-and doesn't need any. "
The slightly elevated green is bowl-shaped, with the most
severe slope running from right to left. Your long iron or
hybrid must carry a shot to the green but remain below the
pin to avoid a tough downhill putt or even tougher chip if
you go long.
" The best shots end up on the right side of the green and
take the slope back down to the middle of the green, " says
Richardson. " Anyone hitting the green is very happy. " -J.O.
