the players and their wives, and the enthusiastic
galleries at TPC Twin Cities (admission
for spectators will be free this year).
The purse of $1.75 million is one of the
largest for a non-major event, too.
Plus, Cavner has been known to make
special arrangements for golfers when
a major championship immediately
precedes the 3M. " We'll probably have
some sort of [jet plane] shuttle service at
Sahalee to get the players back here on
Sunday night, " he says.
Cavner says the 3M is also at the mercy
of the National Sports Center, which is
nearby TPC Twin Cities. The Center is the
home of the U.S. Soccer Cup, and all of
the parking and other facilities go to the
Center before a request from the 3M can
be honored.
So Cavner had his best sales pitch in
hand as he visited other Champions Tour
events prior to the 3M.

but there was a confl ict in his schedule
[he played in Scotland], so I feel confi dent
Tom will be here. "
With defending champion Bernhard
Langer receiving an automatic invite, the
3M Championship is the must-see event
