Rask Overpowers Minneapolis GC for
3rd Minnesota Golf Champions Victory

layton Rask put on a virtuoso display of power golf
on May 13, averaging well more than 300 yards with
his tee shots at Minneapolis Golf Club while putting
together a 7-under-par 65 on the way to a victory-his third in
the Minnesota Golf Champions.
The former Gopher star-and Nationwide Tour regular-concluded
the 54-hole championship with an aggregate of 207 (-9).
Witness to Rask's bogey-free round was Jeff Sorenson, the director
of golf at Columbia GC and three-time Minnesota PGA
Player of the Year, who was duly impressed by what he saw. " He
played like a (PGA) Tour pro, " Sorenson noted.
Rask, a former MGA Player of the Year (2007), made his fi rst
birdie at No. 3, a 565-yard par-5. After launching his drive 330
yards, he hit a 6-iron just short of the green, chipped to eight feet
and drained the putt.
" I really wasn't making any putts the fi rst two days, " he said. " So
it was nice to make the one at 3. That got my putter going. "
Among Rask's mind-boggling accomplishments on Sunday
was when he hit a 345-yard drive at 11 before fl ipping a 62-yard
wedge close enough to make a birdie; he followed that with a 330yard
drive and a 170-yard pitching wedge for another birdie at the
par-5 12th.
