Styling on the Green
Remaining consistent in your putting
routine can lead to more success.

utting can be the one part of the game that allows the most leeway in
grip, stance and style. To putt consistently well, the routine you use to
approach the ball and walk into the putt must remain constant.
Aspects of the routine I recommend:
1 Aim the face fi rst.
A good rule to follow
on full shots also.
2 Align the putter
shaft with the forearm.
This can reduce
overactive hands and
face manipulation.
3 Lastly, place your
other hand on the
grip and align your
body.
Have a routine, do it the same way every time while staying relaxed and in
motion, and make more putts.

ross National has four
very challenging par 3s,
and No. 3 is the toughest-in
fact, it is one of the more diffi
cult par 3s in the state.
" For as straightforward as
it is-it's just got one bunker,

short right of the green-it
really is diffi cult, " says general
manager David Bratland.
The bunker is the least
of the problems. The large,
elevated green is on a plateau,
and any shot missing right or
left leaves a very diffi cult chip
to a severely sloped back-tofront
putting surface.
" If you're pin high or above
the hole, I don't care how far
away-if you get out of there
with two putts, you've done
extremely well, " Bratland says.
In 2010, the course restored
a back tee at 220 yards that
existed in the 1960s " just for
fun, " says Bratland.
