Minnesota Senior Open Results
For the second consecutive season, extra holes were necessary to
determine a champion at the Minnesota Senior Open, and for
the second straight year, Don Berry emerged victorious.
After tying at 4-under 140 in regulation, Berry got up-anddown
for birdie at the fi rst playoff hole to edge out fellow professional
Dale Jones June 3 at Keller Golf Course. It's Berry's seventh
Senior Open title.
" I won-I feel really good about that, " said the 57-year-old
head professional at Edinburgh USA. " My driver is usually one
of the best clubs I can count on, but I just hit it so poorly today. I
don't feel like I totally deserve it, but I'll take it anyway. "
Dave Carothers, the 2017 MGA Amateur champion, claimed
low-amateur honors by fi nishing tied for third place with Bill
Israelson, at 2-under 142 (72-70).

MPGA Mid Public Links
Trent Peterson, of Fountain Valley Golf Course, carded a
1-under par 70 to pass fi rst-round leader Ralph Baxley June 14
at Valleywood Golf Course to win the 16th MPGA Mid Public
Links Championship. For Peterson, 33, this marked his 28th state
title, and a very satisfying victory. " I've never won this before. I
lost in a playoff a few years ago [against Michael Christensen at
Highland National] and last year I made an eight on a hole and
that kind of knocked me out of it, " Peterson said. " I think I've got
them all-that's why I wanted it so bad. "
In the 53rd Net Public Links Championship, a Stableford
point format, another Fountain Valley member, Rick Larsen,
carded 36 points Saturday and 28 points Sunday for a 64 total
to win the fi rst fl ight of the Championship, edging Steve Roers
by a single point. Thomas Kennedy, of Fountain Valley, won the
second fl ight with 67 points, one better than Jon Olson; and Nick
Holler, of Bunker Hills GC, won the third fl ight with 79 points,
15 better than Lester Anderson.
