MGA Women's
Scholarships Awarded
T
he MGA Foundation Women's
Scholarship committee recently
awarded academic scholarships to
two deserving young women, Julia
Besonen, of Menahga, Minn., and
Kaylee Campbell, of Tracy, Minn.
Besonen graduated from
Menahga High School and plans
to attend North Dakota State
University to major in Landscape
Architecture. She played basketball
and volleyball through high school
and participated in the band and
choir. Besonen was elected a class
officer during her junior and senior
years, holding the position of treasurer
and secretary. She was also
awarded a regional state selection
in the Business Professionals of
America. Besonen spent her summers
working on the grounds crew
at the local golf course, Blueberry
Pines GC, sparking her interest in the game of golf and plans
to make golf course design her career.
Campbell graduated from the Tracy Area High School
and plans to attend the University of Nebraska through the
Honors Program, majoring in Actuarial Science. In addition
to the golf team, she was a four-year captain of the speech
team, the student director for school theater, and served on

Julia Besonen
the student council as her grade representative and committee
notetaker. Campbell also volunteered her time as a math
tutor and was an active member of the National Junior Honor
Society serving as the chapter president and regional vice
president of development. Campbell's goal after obtaining
her bachelor's degree is to obtain her doctorate and become
an actuarial fellow.
Apply for the Scholarship
The academic scholarship is $3,000 per year toward undergraduate tuition, books, and room and board,
and is renewable for four years.
Recipients are selected on the basis of academics, financial need, and quality of character demonstrated by
civic and academic activities, in addition to involvement in the game of golf (although skill or excellence in the
latter is not a prerequisite). If you know a deserving young woman candidate (for the class of 2023), application
requests are taken after October 1 and due by March 31. Email karen@mngolf.org for more information.
