through the delay lines, so you essentially
craft the tonal response inside
the reverb decay itself (note, turning off
unused multiplier bands will save processing
power).
Equaliser
The final tabbed section is the Equaliser,
with low cut, low shelf, high shelf and
high-end rolloff for final tone shaping.
Multiband Reverb Time
Multipliers
The final Tai-Chi section is the Multiband
Reverb Time Multipliers. It sounds
complicated, but it is similar in feel and
function to most multi-band plugin processes.
In simple terms, it allows you
to precisely sculpt the tonal response
of the decay of the reverb tail (0.2x to
5x). It offers three-band or four-band
processing with adjustable crossover /
split points (50 Hz to 20 kHz). This is a
potent sound shaping tool, and it's worth
reading the user guide to learn more.
The biggest thing to note is that this is
not simply a multi-band EQ strapped
before or after the reverb tails. Rather,

sound design background, I love my
reverbs long, rich, swimmy, and engulfing.
If I can listen to the 100% wet product
and still sense the tone and presence
of the input signal on any source, then
I'm good to go. Tai-Chi excels across
the board, and with a wonderful nod
to sought-after units of the past. If I had
to place it in one of the classic reverb
schools, I would say that at its heart, TaiChi
is a touch more vintage TC Electronic
and less traditional Lexicon. In addition
to deep soundscaping, it can create
transparent rooms and realistic ambient
spaces with ease. You can automate all
its parameters-a simple tiled room can
bloom into the farthest realms of space
and then collapse and degrade into a
lo-fi barrage of grit and noise. My favorite

Tai-Chi is a sound designer's paradise
that offers deep reverb shaping,
but it loads up more than ready to provide
classic, smooth, and clear spaces
straightaway. I do recommend exploring
the presets and user guide to appreciate
the full scope of Tai-Chi. All this processing
does take a bit more power than
simpler reverb plugins, but it's worth the
cycles-this is a stellar, sweet reverb that
beautifully evokes the inspiring hardware
reverbs of the past while pushing
their sounds into the future. Finally, note
that Tai-Chi will work in a surround mix,
and if you want to keep things simple,
there is a less expensive Tai-Chi Lite.
