L Session og L Session a mixed media piece of my own in the " Rock & Roll Circus " art exhibit that opened at The New Gallery in Hudson, NY, curated by Venezuelan/American collector/gallerist Luis Accorsi. I am currently collaborating with Chilean video artist Nicolas Rupcich on an upcoming audio/visual installation presented in Chile this fall. og L Session og Iceland The French/British gallery Le son 7 (leson7.com) recently commissioned me to create a piece for their new gallery in London. For the installation later this year, I decided to embark on a series of trips to Iceland to record the powerful, intimate and geologically charged sounds of that incredible landscape. This involved hiking to places not always accessible by car, making portability and power consumption of the uttermost importance. Again, I chose my trusted Sound Devices MixPre-6 II. I wanted to bring a stereo microphone that could handle the elements, had a good signal-to-noise ratio and wouldn't break the bank. The real issue is that if you run two condenser mics that need phantom power from four AA batteries, you get less than 10 minutes of recording time. This is unacceptable, so I had to find a different solution. Field Recordings & Live Recordings The answer was a RØDE NT4 stereo microphone that I've owned for a long time and love its form factor. It has served as a stereo percussion overhead and for acoustic guitars in the studio. RØDE also makes a windsock called the DeadKitten that wraps around the stereo capsules to cut down on wind noise and protect Recording a bird nesting area in Iceland Recording the sounds of seagulls on the coasts of Iceland 58 RECORDING July 2022http://www.leson7.com
