ST. BERNARD PORT, HARBOR & TERMINAL DISTRICT St. Bernard Port is strategically located on the lower Mississippi River, globally importing and exporting raw materials. The Port is truly multimodal, connected to the nation by the River, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway system, all six Class 1 Railroads and Interstate Highways. Featuring the only calm water, deep draft slip on the lower Mississippi, the Port services bulk and break bulk cargos with four separate mid-stream bouys at four different locations, loading and unloading ships up to and including 1,000-foot cape-sized vessels. In 2015, the port handled 7.6 million short tons of cargo. There are over 800 full-time employees at the port, and 48 different businesses located there create an additional 1,200 jobs in St. Bernard parish. Robert J. Scafidel, Ed.
