News&Notes ACCG Offers New Way to Stay Connected During the 2013 Legislative Session L egislation passed by the Georgia General Assembly can have significant impacts on county operations. Therefore, it is important for county officials to monitor weekly legislative updates and action alerts from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) to track issues that are under consideration. This year, ACCG has added a video component to the weekly legislative update through YouTube. Each week, the ACCG policy team will select several legislative issues and provide a more in-depth perspective on the topic of concern and actions needed by county officials. These video updates are included within the legislative updates that are emailed each week and also are featured at Total Dividends Returned though ACCG Workers’ Compensation Program Nears $50 Million T he Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) is pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees for the ACCG Group Self Insurance Workers’ Compensation Fund voted to return a dividend in the amount of $3.25 million to its membership. The dividend will be in the form of a premium credit to those members who have been in the program since 2003 or earlier. This action marks the 18th straight year that a dividend has been returned to participating jurisdictions and brings the total returned since 1985 to over $49.2 million. The ACCG Workers’ Compensation Program is a memberowned insurance fund that was started in 1982. The pool provides workers’ compensation coverage for 134 counties and 35 authorities in Georgia. Participating jurisdictions also are eligible to participate in risk reduction and training programs offered through Local Government Risk Management Services (LGRMS) at no cost. LGRMS was established by ACCG and the Georgia Municipal Association to assist local governments in reducing their potential claims through training and other innovative programs.
