LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

ACCG Annual Confere
By Nicole Butler
ACCG Communications Coordinator

"KEEP CALM and Carry On." For years we have heard and seen this in many advertisements, but are you familiar with the history surrounding
the phrase? In late 1939, the British government's Ministry of Information created a series of posters to boost morale at the onset of World War
II. While many of the images were circulated, the-ever-so-popular Keep Calm and Carry On poster was never distributed until 2000 when it was
discovered by Barter Books. Since the discovery of the message, the phrase has been coined by several groups and organizations to promote the
services or goods offered. Although the official poster was never released, it is often associated with and embodies the spirit of British Prime
Minister Winston Churchill. This year at the upcoming annual conference, ACCG hopes to capture the same power of the original message by
encouraging county officials to continue to persevere in the face of a storm and learn how to Keep Calm and Carry On.
Chatham County's Savannah, known for its historic presence and Spanish moss, will once again serve as host to this year's Annual Conference.
The dates are slated for April 26-29. The ACCG Leadership Development team is working tirelessly to ensure the conference is filled with substantive learning opportunities, inspirational speakers and much more to help county officials endure the challenging moments and ever-changing
dynamics of local government while focusing on the overall goal of advancing Georgia's counties. Pull out your calendars, circle the dates and
get ready to learn how through difficult decisions, competing perspectives and challenging situations, you can Keep Calm and Carry On.
Buyers Mart Opening & County Agents'
Farm House Welcome Reception
Friday, April 26
3:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Amazing giveaways, free trinkets, and food. What's better than that?
The County Buyers Mart provides the opportunity for county officials to
connect with companies that fit the needs of their county. Those who
take advantage of the time spent in the Buyers Mart building relationships
with the various vendors leave knowing what products and services are
available to them. The key to navigating the Buyers Mart is to remember
that it's about establishing connections with various companies and
finding out how they can help you meet the needs of your county. So,
prepare early by listing some priority services or products your county
needs and creating a list of questions to ask each vendor. This will give
you more time to taste the delicious food provided by the County Agent's
Farm House and to collect fun items to take back to your community.
See page 29 for a list of participating vendors.
