leAdershIP develoPment I, you, me, and we ... leading ourselves and others By Jeff Christie ACCG Leadership Development Deputy Director SINCE DECEMBER 2013, this has been the new theme accompanying the newly designed ACCG Leadership Institute. The new theme parallels the newly designed curriculum that engages participants in a complete leadership development experience. In the past year and a half, more than 230 county officials have participated in the newly designed ACCG Leadership Institute, gaining new insight in leadership development and county government. Participants have ranged from elected chairs of county boards, to commissioners; and from county managers and administrators, to department heads and assistant directors. Regardless of the elected or appointed role of the county official, a wealth of information, discovery, and self-awareness is available to all who fully engage at the ACCG Leadership Institute. The new approach to offering the Institute began in August 2013. A group called the Leadership Institute Curriculum Design Team was gathered at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government on the University of Georgia campus. The Design Team featured a combination of elected officials, county staff, technical subject matter experts, ACCG staff, and UGACVIOG faculty and staff. The team was tasked with the responsibility of identifying the key components for this course, including the purpose, objectives, outcomes, content, and delivery modes.
