member servIces "her mAJestY" Instills valuable lessons Lessons learned from the Hancock County courthouse fire By Ashley Abercrombie ACCG Insurance Programs Deputy Director AS A PART of its centennial anniversary in 2014, ACCG paid tribute to Georgia's county courthouses through the publication of a photography book, Courthouses of Georgia. As noted by Ross King, ACCG executive director, "In many of Georgia's counties, the historic courthouse is the central focus of the town square." This is certainly true of the Hancock County courthouse, affectionately known to locals as "Her Majesty," since it is the first glimpse of Sparta travelers see when they enter the town from the north. Notably, the picture of the Hancock County courthouse in the book was one of the last to be taken before Affectionately known to Hancock residents as "Her Majesty", the county courthouse is on track to be reopened in spring 2016. The courthouse burned in summer 2014 and the county has received much support to help the community staple regain its functionality. Photo credit ACCG. FALL 2015 79
