ASSOCIATES’ CORNER The ACI-NA World Business Partners/Associates Board of Directors The Voice of Associate Members P lease allow me to reintroduce you to the ACI-NA World Business Partners/Associates Board of Directors. The board consists of 13 members, elected by the official representatives of ACI-NA’s associate members to represent their interests in issue discussions, policy considerations and actions considered by ACI-NA. The elected members represent the diversity of the associate member organizations to ensure that the voices of all associates are heard. The current board is comprised of one platinum, four diamond, three gold and three silver member companies; as well as one small business and one sole proprietor. Members are elected to serve three-year rotational terms that are staggered to ensure continuity with new and fresh ideas being introduced to the board. During the ACI-NA CEO Forum held in February, we hosted the first “Associates Only” session where two items of interest to associate members were presented. The first item was a discussion of procurement issues related to airports’ procurement of construction, professional services, concessions and equipment and goods. The discussion was very productive, and a second session geared to solicit the perspectives of airport executives took place in April at the CFO Breakfast at the Economics and Human Capital Conference in Portland. During the second half of the “Associates Only” session in Miami, Gary Magenta of Root, Inc., took attendees through an interesting and interactive discussion on developing business strategies. Sessions like these provide a platform for sharing best practices and discussing items of concern, as well as providing an opportunity to gain knowledge that is relevant and useful for all associates in their respective operations. There is significant interaction and discussion of issues between the Associates Board and the ACI-NA Board. The immediate past ACI-NA chair acts as a liaison and attends and participates in our meetings. At the same time, the immediate past chair of the Associates Board serves as a member of the ACI-NA Board. Both boards meet during the same conferences so that an executive committee-to-executive committee meeting can be held to share and discuss issues of concern. I also serve as the WBP/associates representative to the ACI-NA Government Affairs Committee Steering Group. As you can see, there is plenty of opportunity for us to ensure your concerns and suggestions are heard. In the March 2012 edition of Centerlines, then past-associates board chair Steve Baldwin wrote about the World Business Partner Program; emphasizing the growing member count and the value the program offers for involvement and participation in ACI-NA events. Last September 2012, then-associates board chair Kitty Freidheim spoke about the benefits of deeper involvement for our business members through the platform, products and activities ACI-NA offers. I strongly endorse and echo their sentiments and also encourage you to get involved with this board and have your voice heard through communicating with all the members of the Associates Board. Let us know how we can better represent and communicate issues of importance to you. I would like to commend the current Board members for their efforts and dedication to serving your interests. I also applaud the past members for leaving a legacy of solid accomplishment and strong representation of the associate members. Personally, I am proud and happy to serve you as Chair of the WBP/Associates Board. My diverse background, with airlines, as an airport CEO and now as a consultant to the industry, gives me a perspective that allows me to strongly advocate for the interests of associates while being intuitively fair to other segments of the industry. We all thank you, the associate members, for having the confidence in us to elect us to represent you. But, don’t forget, we are here to do just that; get engaged and have your voice heard through us.
