Multipronged APPROACH IN THE LAST few decades, several improvement frameworks and practices- including control charts; 5S; kaizen; lean; Six Sigma; ISO 9000; total quality management (TQM); the software capability maturity model integration (CMMI); IT infrastructure library; benchmarking; and the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ)-have evolved to help organizations extinguish burning business issues. While these frameworks and practices have become necessary in many ways, they are not always enough when implemented alone, studies have shown.1 In one survey, more than 30% of organizations said they had implemented a combination of these practices,2 which suggests there's a need for the rigorous integration and application In 50 Words Or Less * In today's rapidly changing business environment of IT service organizations, one of the main challenges is improving business performance while enhancing value to the customer. * Using multiple quality methods, one global organization developed a sustainable business excellence culture to meet these objectives. of appropriate frameworks and practices to promote and add value. Our global IT services organization, IGATE Global Solutions, has developed, implemented and institutionalized an integrated business excellence (BE) framework. The New Jersey-based IGATE, which serves markets in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific, has used this structured framework to successfully implement 1,332 improvements, which had a financial impact of $8.53 million from 20102012. IGATE involved 3,420 team members across its organization to add business value as well as improve its quality culture.
