Habitat - March/April 2018 - 9

CHAIR'S MESSAGE

Tommy Brunson,
AAA Chair

s your 2018 Board Chair, one of
the things that excites me most
is watching our AAA Staff and
committee leadership excel
at each of our activities throughout the
year. Many thanks to Sheryl Camp and
Walt Lamperski for an outstanding start
to 2018 with our first Dinner Meeting.
David Rendall was certainly entertaining
with his Freak Factor presentation. We had
a fantastic turnout for our semi-annual
Apartment Market Outlook, and I am
grateful to Tom Wilkes and Jane Fullwood
for their consistent leadership as they look
to address important trends and ideas
in our industry. A huge thanks go out to
Debbie Millwood, our Maintenance Mania
chair who produced another competitive
event, highlighting the skills of AAA's
unsung heroes, our property maintenance
teams. Our new location at LakePoint
Sports Community proved to be a success,
and watching the speed of the contestants
was truly impressive! Congratulations to
all our contestants, and we look forward
to following our winner at NAA for the
national award.
I am happy to be moving from the cold,
wintry start of this year to a warm up this
spring. For many of us, that means the threat
of frozen pipe-bursts are behind us, but we
must look forward to HVAC season! We have
many upcoming activities at AAA this spring
that will allow us to get outside and enjoy the
warmer weather, including the upcoming Vic
Maslia Golf Classic March 27th at The Manor.
As you know, this annual event supports
our Georgia Better Government Fund PAC.
By now, you've heard me mention that 2018
is a vital year for legislative affairs for our
industry, and we need to make sure our voice
is heard within the lawmaking community.
Please come out and join us for a fun-filled
event that benefits this important cause.
Your AAA Staff and Board members
will be visiting Washington, D.C. in March

to impress upon Georgia's congressional
delegation the importance of our industry
to our state's economic prosperity, as well as
providing housing to our growing population.
The AAA Government Affairs team will
update members on progress after these
events, as well as the conclusion of the 2018
State Legislative Session currently underway
at the Gold Dome downtown.
In addition to Government Affairs, I want
to continue to update our membership on
our other two focus areas for 2018 - the
Workforce Development initiative, and
focus on our long-term Strategic Plan. Our
AAA Staff continues to make progress on
our new Career Center website, as well as
build relationships with partners like DECA
and Construction Education Foundation of
Georgia ("CEFGA") to help attract new talent
to our industry. On the Strategic Planning
front, members of our Board of Directors
will meet in April to consider the long-term
health of our organization. Please continue
to support these two additional areas of
interest for the year, and of course, we always
welcome your feedback and suggestions
for improvement.
Finally, please mark your calendars
once more for our Spring Dinner Meeting
on March 22 at the Cobb Galleria Center.
Scott Waddles is our speaker and will share
his message, "Failure Need Not Be Failed."
It's another opportunity to gather as a
community and enjoy an evening together.
As you can see, it's going to be a busy
spring. I look forward to seeing you at each
of these events. Start getting that golf swing
in shape!
