CHAIR'S MESSAGE AAA is Heading Full Steam into Fall! I t is hard to imagine that summer is already over. The year is flying by and it has been jam packed with lots of AAA opportunities. We are not slowing down, as we have a busy fall ahead of us. Before we move into upcoming events, I want to thank everyone that attended the Apartment Market Outlook workshop last month. We had a huge turnout that was not disappointed with market updates by Malcolm McComb, Chris Hall and Ryan Davis. The quality of information we received from these individuals was invaluable, and a huge shout out to Tom Wilkes with Walton Communities for the fine job he did in assembling our "Preparing for the Future" panel with Virginia Love, Janet Ham and Roman Stephens. I am always inspired to hear from great industry leaders on where they see the apartment industry going in the future. I can't wait to see what the next Outlook workshop will bring. And let us not forget the amazing 2016 Can Can Ball. In a new location this year, the event outdid itself. A huge thank you to Karen Nelson and Eric Coryer for all of their efforts in working with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to make this event the best one yet. It is a lot of hard work to pull this type of event off, but these pros make it look easy. We certainly appreciate all of their time, love and dedication to this fabulous event. Now moving on to upcoming events, the fabulous Food-A-Thon 101 got us started in June, and we are moving quickly towards the Annual Food-A-Thon Parade on October 14. This event is always a fun-filled day where we all come together in support of our community and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. We are pushing for another record event in 2016. The theme for this year's event is Lights! Cans! Action! I know we will see some exciting entrances this year at the parade and I can't wait to see what is in store. Hope to see all of you there! Don't forget, the GAA meeting is early September in Savannah. By now, everyone should be signed up as we are once again sold out! We will have an amazing time in Savannah learning, networking and partying the night away. It will be a fantastic event with plenty of opportunity for you and your teams to come away with new ideas, new friends and a new appreciation for all this industry has to offer. I can't wait to see everyone in Savannah. And one of my favorite events, the GAA-PAC Tennis Classic supporting our PAC will be held at Blackburn Park on September 30. This is a great time. Whether you are an avid tennis player or a true beginner, there is a place for you at this event. So come out, have fun and raise money for our all-important Government Affairs team. And mark your calendars for November 10 for the ever-popular S.T.A.R. Awards. Be on the lookout for nomination forms for the awards. We will be announcing our Food-A-Thon winners that evening in addition to our industry S.T.A.R.s. This event always sells out so book early and come prepared to have a wonderful time. In closing, I hope everyone had a fantastic and productive summer. I look forward to seeing all of you over the coming months at this packed line up of wonderful events. Thanks for all you do for the association each and every day. Jamie Teabo 2016 AAA Chair SEP TEMBER /OC TOBER 2016 | H A BITAT | 9
