Diversity: Did You Know?

ethnic diversity in a company's workforce, sales revenue
grows by 3 to 9 percent.
* By 2060, 22 U.S. states will be "majority-minority"

>>> SEEING VALUE IN DIVERSITY
Sarah Reid (pictured
above), senior manager
for ABA's membership
team, presented the
findings of ABA's staff
task force on diversity
and inclusion. "Diversity
and inclusion is quickly
becoming a business
imperative. [It] is the
best way to increase
everyone's potential, and

in that sense, it's the
right thing to do," Reid
said. "ABA wants to help
banks fully understand
the benefits of diversity
and inclusion as a way
to win new customers
and new talent in a very
competitive market."
The diversity and inclusion
task force was one of two

staff-led working groups
formed by ABA President
and CEO Rob Nichols
this year. The other task
force, which examined
bank consolidation, also
presented its findings
at the leadership
meeting. (For more on
bank consolidation, see
the feature article on
page 30.)

New ABA Officers Elected at
ABA Annual Convention
A new slate of volunteer officers was elected at ABA's Annual Convention in
October. Ken Burgess, chairman of FirstCapital Bank of Texas in Midland, Texas,
will be chairman for the 2017-18 year. Jeff Szyperski will serve as chairman-elect;
he is chairman, president and CEO of Chesapeake Bank in Kilmarnock, Va. Laurie
Stewart, president and CEO of Sound Community Bank in Seattle, will serve as vice
chairman. Entering the second year of his two-year term as treasurer is George
Hermann, president and CEO of Windsor Federal Savings, Windsor, Conn.
"These bankers are passionate and engaged industry leaders who volunteer
tremendous amounts of their time to represent banks of all sizes before Congress,
regulators and gatherings in the U.S. and around the globe," says ABA President
and CEO Rob Nichols. "Our industry is grateful for their leadership, dedication
and expertise." Look for more photos and updates from ABA's Annual Convention
