Piano said the honour comes at a
perfect time as he is now working
on the Toronto Courthouse, his first
project in Canada. He said of Toronto:
"I am particularly happy to work in
this city, which is proud to be an
open city, welcoming people that
come from all around the world. It
actually reminds me of construction
sites, where people from all over the
world work together: making public
buildings is always a great gesture
of peace."
Piano has left his mark on buildings
all around the world, from the Centre
Georges Pompidou in Paris to the
London Bridge Tower ("The Shard") in
London. He has received numerous
awards, including the Praemium
Imperiale, the Pritzker Architecture
Prize, and the Gold Medal AIA.
The other 2019 Honorary Fellows are
Denise Scott Brown, Hon. FAIA, Ivenue
Love-Stanley, FAIA, Elizabeth Chu
Richter, FAIA, and Vishaan Chakrabarti,
FAIA. Scott Brown has been an
outspoken advocate for women
in architecture and an influential
architect and urban designer since
the 1960s. Love-Stanley was the first
African-American woman to become
a registered architect in the Southeast,
while Chu Richter was the first AsianAmerican woman to be elected as
President of the American Institute
of Architects.

RAIC Foundation Silent
Auction
Participate in the RAIC Foundation's
inaugural Silent Auction at Festival and
help support the next generation of
Canadian architects.
The auction results will be announced
during the Foundation's Fundraising
Lunch on October 30. The Foundation
is asking members, firms, suppliers,

organizations, and community
businesses to help support scholarships
and bursaries by donating items to the
auction. Contributions to the silent
auction are considered charitable
donations and are eligible for tax
receipts. For more information,
please contact Breann Oneid,
RAIC at 613-241-3600 Ext. 215 or
boneid@raic.org.

RAIC Trade Show and
Sponsorship
The Trade Show at the RAIC 2019
Festival of Architecture is expanding
to three days, from October 27 to 29.
Starting with a welcoming reception
on Sunday, October 27, through the
morning of October 29, the trade show
includes two networking breakfasts
and one networking lunch. It's a perfect
opportunity to showcase and describe
products and services to delegates,
as well as discover the latest industry
needs and trends.
Don't miss this opportunity to reach
stakeholders in the architecture
profession including architects,
designers, planners and more. Space is
limited, so book a booth now, using the
online trade show booth application at
www.surveymonkey.com/r/3NYKZJK.
The annual Festival of Architecture
could not succeed without the
generous support of RAIC's sponsors
and partners. Partnership packages
range from $5,000 to $50,000. Sponsors
and partners make the Festival's special
events, plenaries and the College of
Fellows Convocation possible, and also
support the attendance of up to 17
student delegates from across Canada.
To find out how to become involved
in supporting Festival 2019 and
