CELEBRATE THE POWER OF EDUCATORS N CEA ANNUAL CONVENTION PREVIEW BY BEAUTYLINK STAFF elson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This summer, cosmetology instructors from across the nation will Celebrate the Power of Educators. Celebrate, the theme for the 2013 CEA Annual Convention, July 19–22 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, reminds educators of the important role they play in the classroom. They are the heart and soul of schools, training a new generation of hairstylists, nail technicians, skin specialists and massage therapists. Each year, CEA is known for bringing hundreds of teachers together in one place to educate, inspire and motivate, and this year is no different. There are some exciting new features added to this year’s event, so if you’re an educator, there’s no other place you should be the third weekend of July. New to the schedule this year, many classes are hands-on or include a live demonstration. Gone are the days of lecture-style teaching! Event-goers will be able to attend these classes to elevate their learning experience and get their hands in the mix with these exciting new sessions. For the first time ever, educators will be able to attend a session taught by fellow CEA members. A few months ago, CEA held a competition inviting educators to submit an innovative teaching idea or method they use in the classroom. A lot of great entries were submitted (look for them in an upcoming BeautyLink feature), but ultimately three educators won their way to CEA to present their idea to attendees! For most learning sessions, the planning committee recruits top industry speaking professionals to present educational topics, but this Ignite Session where educators can learn from their peers is an exciting addition. CEA is honored to have Milady sponsor Bravo’s Shear Genius contestant, Theodore Leaf, as this year’s keynote speaker. Leaf has been featured on NBC’s Fashion Star, E!’s Fashion Police and Style Network’s How Do I Look? Following his evening keynote address, attendees are invited to a meet and greet in the Expo Hall. And that’s only one of several special events educators are invited to attend. Farouk’s Dance Party will include a night of cocktails, appetizers, a hair show and dancing. It will also feature a costume contest, where you’ll have to dress in your best futuristic-inspired wardrobe. The party will include giveaways of some of your favorite Farouk tools and products. The education, networking and receptions are reason enough to attend, but CEA will also feature a packed Expo Hall filled with your favorite beauty supply companies. Whether you’re shopping or checking out what’s new on the market, you’ll be able to meet face-to-face with suppliers and manufacturers that will help you conduct business all year long. With door prizes and show specials from your favorite exhibitors, the schedule will allow you plenty of time to conduct business and set up meetings. This unforgettable weekend will take place on the heart of the Las Vegas strip at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. This fabulous hotel is home to the famous Miracle Mile Shops, which includes 170 stores and 15 restaurants. So come a few days early or leave a few days late to fully experience all that Las Vegas has to offer. You can take advantage of the CEA discount room rate of $118 before and after the convention.
