97 YEARS AND COUNTING -
KERRISDALE LUMBER CO. LTD.

W

HEN KERRISDALE LUMBER CO. LTD.
FIRST OPENED ITS DOORS,
MERCHANDISE WAS DELIVERED BY
HORSE AND WAGON. BACK THEN,
YOU COULD PURCHASE A THOUSAND
BOARD-FOOT FOR $10.00. FOUR
GENERATIONS LATER AND THE BUSINESS
HAS EVOLVED FROM A NEIGHBOURHOOD HARDWARE STORE
TO A DIVERSE COMPANY SERVING VANCOUVER AND THE
LOWER MAINLAND.
Vice President of Operations for
Kerrisdale Lumber, Lyle Perry, credits
his company's success to a number
of factors. "We have grown thanks to
our team, our customer service model
and growing customer base. The three
really go hand-in-hand. We wouldn't
be 97 years into business if we didn't
focus on these three pillars," Perry said.
The family owned and operated
business since 1921 has an innate
knowledge of the industry. "The
team is dedicated to providing
extraordinary customer service to
our customers in the contractor
supply, hardware, and outdoor living
and BBQ business divisions. Our
employees' are our great assets and
we treat everyone that works here as
part of the Kerrisdale Lumber family,"
he explained.
Perry is also quick to acknowledge
a customer base that appreciates
quality workmanship. "We are able
to align our business processes and

operations thanks to our customers.
They tell us what they are looking for
in terms of products and services.
Our team has created a stronger
emotional connection and rapport
with our customers because we
stock items that we know they
would want."
The biggest challenge facing Perry
and his team in 2018 will be staying
on top of the emerging new building
and insulation products. "With new
building code requirements comes
a plethora of new products. It is
imperative our team understands
the provincial codes for building,
plumbing and fire. If we want to
stay ahead of the curve, we need
to supply the product lines that the
construction industry has come to
expect from us," explained Perry.
In recognition of their 97th year
in business, the team will celebrate
with a BBQ. "We plan on hosting a
summer BBQ with our customers and

the community. It's an opportunity to
thank them for their business. We also
plan to hold product demonstrations
throughout the day to share the
newest products in outdoor living and
our fall product lineup."
A proud member of the BSIA,
the team at Kerrisdale Lumber is
appreciative of the association's
efforts. "We have utilized many of the
training programs offered by BSIA.
Our staff has found the programs
extremely valuable. The association's
roots run deep with our family. My
great grandfather Albert Perry was a
founding member of the BSIA."
The industry veteran expects
BSIA to play a pivotal role in the
growth of building of retailers
and related suppliers, wholesalers
and manufacturers for years to
come. "Members deeply value the
relationships they have forged
through the association. In the next
80 years, BSIA will play an even
greater role in providing relevant
industry information and value-added
member savings, products and
services," Perry concluded.
