BUILDING SUPPLY INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION- July/August 2018 - 8
Night at the Races
riday April 13th turned out to be a pretty awesome night
at the races in Cloverdale. We had 75 attendees in the
Dragon Lounge, a room designated just for the BSIA. In the
Dragon Lounge we also had an amazingly delicious buffet and
betting stations, along with the beautiful window view to the races,
and we were literally right on the finish line. The night was rainy with
a bit of sleet at times, however it did not dampen the spirits of the
attendees, who enjoyed the event and after, were able to head to

the casino to try their luck.
We had support from many of our member companies including, Port Hardy Building Supplies, who came the furthest for
this event, and Boyd Distributors, Doubletree Forest Products, Quikrete/Target, TimberMart, Southridge Building Supplies,
Haney Builders Supplies (1971) Ltd., Cedarline Industries, Coast Distributors, and Fraser Valley Building Supplies who made
it a staff event and had 30 attendees.
Thank you to all those who attended and supported this event, mark your calendars for 2019 and come and join us on
e started out for Nanaimo via Victoria early May 10 so that we could
stop by and meet some of the members along the way. Our first
stop was at Home Lumber in Victoria to meet with Reade Briscoe
and Karnel Jawl. Ron Tu, our Vice Chair and Chair of the Awards committee
has been encouraging us to get out and tour as many Orion Award finalists as
possible, so that is what we have been doing before and after our regional golf
tournaments. It's been a real success and certainly the members appreciate the
recognition and an opportunity to meet those that can join in on the tour.
The Nanaimo tournament is our first of the season and we are always
concerned about the weather. This year was no exception. Ray Cyr, Board member and our resident weather forecaster
promised sunshine by tee time and sure enough, the clouds parted and the sun broke through. I did notice though that
Jorge didn't wear his usual golf sandals, which indicated that he wasn't sure of Ray's sunshiny prediction. The Nanaimo
Golf Club does a great job of hosting our events in one of the most beautiful settings in BC. Thanks to everyone that
attended, it was a great day for golf. Thanks as well to Stu Thompson for MC'ing and keeping the crew on track after a great
supper. Special thanks to our sponsors, Coast Distributors, ZLC Financial and BSIA Benefits Plan, and we welcomed our
newest Affinity Partner JT Insurance Service (hole in one sponsor) along with their island representative Dale Van Der Mark.
he Black Mountain Golf course is another spectacular location with
some of the best scenery in the interior. With an early morning,
Monday start, it's one of the best places to be on a nice day. The
interior sun warms up very quickly and the golfers appreciate getting on
the links early before it's too hot.
With lots of smiling faces the duffers got off on time with coffee in hand
for a great day of golf. Mike Morrow, (fancy pants), did a great job MC'ing
the event after a great lunch, topped off with a special treat of apple pie
and ice cream. Doesn't get much better than that! Thanks to our members that support this regional tournament and the
sponsors that make it even more fun. Check out the pictures for all our events on our website www.bsiabc.ca under the
Home tab, click on Gallery.
Ron Tu, Scott Emo, Scott Guy continued on after the tournament to meet with a number of the Orion Award finalists
and had a great day. Special thanks to MB Vancouver and Patrick Kearny for supplying the Metris van which made the
tour that much more comfortable. Great vehicle, if you are looking for a deal on a Metris or Sprinter please contact
Patrick Kearny. Thank you to our sponsors, Coast Distributors, ZLC Financial and BSIA Benefits Plan.
