BCFCA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I

f you don't already, it's a very good business move
to have a regularly scheduled sales team meetings.
A sales team meeting is used to identify, develop
and train for sales improvements. Meetings could
be weekly, or bi-weekly and should not run over 75 minutes.
The effective sales meeting has clear, attainable objectives that
everyone on the team can understand. Sales meetings should motivate,
set goals, recognize top performers and present possible sales strategies.
Plan follow-up meetings to review the objectives and determine the
status of each item. Give your sales team a copy of printed objectives
along with follow-up dates and important notes from the meeting.
Introduce New Products - Any time a new product is rolled out,
the team should be prepared. A supplier or factory representative could
attend the meeting to do a complete presentation.
Ideas for Higher Sales - Sales meetings should include ideas for
reaching higher sales goals.
Recognition and Prizes - Recognition is a prime motivator for
selling more, second only to receiving praise.
Sales Skill Development - Lead practice sessions during the sales
meeting to hone the team's sales skills. Brushing up on techniques for
overcoming objections or leading the customer will pay off during
the selling campaign.
Brainstorming - Brainstorming sessions in sales meetings can
help to develop effective sales methods that can be applied to many
different situations.

Market Changes - A sales meeting is the chance for the
team to get a comprehensive picture of the marketplace and formulate tactics designed to address pending economic and consumer changes.
Product Updates - A proactive sales department stays up to
date on anticipated product releases and works together at sales
meetings to development methods for promoting and selling
new products.
Set Goals and Development Plans - Sales representatives should
not be lone wolves cut scouring for deals all by themselves. In fact,
sales teams can act most effectively when everyone is on the same page.
For this reason, weekly meetings should provide updates on new sales,
potential new clients and other issues of common interest. You can't
cover every aspect of sales during a single meeting, so don't try to. But
weekly meetings can still be valuable opportunity for education. Set
a single priority for the week and set a goal for everyone to put new
knowledge into practice. For example, you might choose to focus on
learning at a BCFCA education seminar.
While not every meeting will have room for every item on the
list, implementing a few of these sales meeting topics can transform
weekly meetings from dull to very relevant. We at the BCFCA wish
you all well in your endeavors.
