Canadian Dam Association Bulletin - Summer 2016 - 12

ICOLD CORNER T NOUVELLES DE LA CIGB he 2016 Annual Meeting and Symposium of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, 15-20 May 2016. Over 1200 representatives attended from 77 countries, including 24 African nations. Twenty-two delegates attended from Canada. CDA partnered with the Trade Commissioner's Office of the Canadian High Commission in South Africa, hosting a booth in the Exhibition area and arranging meetings for international delegates to speak with Canadian business representatives. Among the Canadian delegates, the common reason for attending the meeting and symposium to collaborate with the international community. To be a leader in the field, it is essential to be exposed to advances and different approaches to the challenges we face. ICOLD Technical Committees hold meetings at the annual meeting. Committees that are starting or finishing projects also have workshops to get feedback from the larger community. The meetings and workshops are open to all delegates. This is an opportunity for professionals to see how ICOLD Bulletins are developed, and to provide input to publications that will be used as important references for years to come. Canada is represented on 20 of the 25 ICOLD committees and chairs 6 of them. CDA thanks the Canadian delegates and their sponsoring employers. Many of the individuals were able to attend committee meetings either as members or observers.
