Canadian Dam Association Bulletin - Fall 2017 - 48

The CDA 2018 Conference
MANAGING AGING DAMS,
A CHALLENGE FOR OWNERS
AND PROFESSIONALS
Under the theme "Managing Aging
Dams, a Challenge for Owners and
Professionals," the Canadian Dam
Association (CDA) invites you to
attend its Annual Conference, which
will be held Oct. 13-18, 2018 at the
Québec City Convention Centre.
The natural resources of the Québec
City region are exceptional: from the
mighty St. Lawrence River to the
breathtaking canyon of Sainte-Anne
Falls, and the huge wildlife reserve
of the Laurentians. As for Québec
City, dominated by the impressive
silhouette of the Château Frontenac,
it has a unique configuration in North
America. A maze of picturesque streets
runs through Old Québec, which was
declared a UNESCO World Heritage
Site in 1985. The St. Lawrence River is
the origin of its name, since "kebec", in
Algonquian, means "where the river
shrinks".
The 2018 CDA Annual Conference
is the national forum of engineers,
owners, operators and other specialists working in the field of
dams. The management of aging
dams represents a real challenge
for these owners and professionals
who ensure the durability of these
structures. The Quebec Conference
will once again present leading edge
technical programs, workshops,
technical visits and panels that will
address topics related to the theme
of the Conference.
This will be an opportunity to discuss, among other things, the various

developments in dam design, construction and repair, as well as the
regulation, maintenance and management of dams or tailings dams.
Attendance at the conference and
workshops will provide continuing
education units required by many professional organizations.
