Learning Formats
to Educate and
Engage Attendees

s your conference education program trapped in the same old routine:
the instructor lectures, the attendees take notes (or not!) and the session
ends with a lackluster Q&A? Education sessions- even those that provide
certification or continuing education credits- do not have to be structured
in the "old-school" format.

In fact, unconventional learning
formats- such as peer-to-peer learning
and unstructured sessions- are
becoming increasingly popular with
attendees. Additionally, technological
advances are making it easier and less
expensive to make your sessions more
interactive.
Following are some techniques to
create a more meaningful learning
experience to better educate, entertain
and engage conference attendees.
Trained Speakers
Creating memorable education
sessions begins with your
speakers. Approach them about
making changes to their
format early in the planning
process. Then, work closely
with the conference
speakers to craft their
learning objectives
and practice audienceengagement strategies.
For example, a
nonprofit organization
dedicated to eradicating
hunger holds strategy
sessions during the
planning of its educational
conferences. These
sessions teach leaders
and speakers a variety of
innovative learning formats.
As a result, the hunger-relief
charity's conferences now
include shorter, more focused
presentations, interactive
round-table discussions, live
demonstrations, interactive visual
displays and workshops designed
