Last night, you became a signatory to our new Canadian Landscape Charter. It was during your term as President of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) that we began to address the need for the recognition and the protection of cultural landscapes. You started an initiative to explore the idea of extending the principles of the European Landscape Convention, which had been adopted in 2000, to the rest of the world. Can you tell us about this? MF: It has been a wonderful journey. If you remember, Jim, when I was President and you were on the IFLA Executive Committee, we were dreaming about having an international landscape charter. The strategy then was to start the work in the regions - that is, from the grassroots. JT: Meanwhile, it seemed better to work from the bottom up: that is, beginning the process with regional initiatives. Since then, you have had great successes in Latin America. MF: Yes. Jim, remember, when we were in Africa? In 2011, I told you that I had a dream and Latin Americans should work in synergy. Then Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, uruguay and Venezuela Associations of Landscape Architects echoed this strategy. We
