that will most impact your business
in 2018?
Once again the Executive Committee has done an excellent job of keeping its finger on the pulse of the industry
and the current pressures and trends that it is facing. While
some are familiar, others are newly identified and help the
membership better prepare for what lies ahead. The Industry
Trend that will have the biggest impact on our organization
in 2018 is the continuing demands being placed on us by
our customers that is requiring us to move away from conventional thinking of supplying equipment solutions without
providing a plethora of services to go with it.
How are you preparing to handle that challenge or
opportunity?
Our focus is evaluating what our current customer base
requires and after analyzing what areas make sense to
address, implement solutions that bring additional value to
our customers. This process will require further investment
in personnel and assets which will lead us back to the long
standing challenge of recruiting and retaining of talented
people with the proper skill sets.

that will most impact your business
in 2018?
Many Material Handling Business Trends will continue
to impact our business in 2018 and beyond. Changing buying patterns, including online research and purchasing are
steadily increasing, and we must work hard to understand,
embrace and implement a successful electronic B2B strategy
for our dealership in 2018. Understanding these worldwide
challenges is only the beginning of this topic; embracing and
implementing a sound strategy is not so easy! How do we

promote a retail e-outlet to gain access to our customer's
pocket? Managing customer relationships and customer
access through mobile devices for increased efficiency and
accuracy with electronic billing and consolidated customer
SAP platforms.
How are you preparing to handle that challenge or
opportunity?
Internet marketing to include company website, inventory
micro-sites linked with OEM's, e-blasts and geo-targeted
advertising are all part of our go forward e-strategy for
2018! Content purchase and delivery for parts and service
manuals, customer e-couponing and e-loyalty programs are
also part of our staff discussions. Online catalog transactions and inventory management will definitely effect our
bottom line.
We find more questions than answers about an e-strategy
today, but one thing is clear - your dealership must adapt
and be proactive, or be assured your competition is already
implementing their solution!

that will most impact your business
in 2018?
We are receiving more inquiries from
our larger customers on ways to reduce fleet size and operators, specifically looking to automation and AGV forklifts. 
We see this as both a threat to our traditional forklift business, but also as an opportunity to expand our repair services
to include the more sophisticated AGV equipment, which
can bring in higher labor dollars.
How are you preparing to handle that challenge or
opportunity?
Fortunately for us, our main supplier acquired two very
prominent automation and AGV companies within the past
few years, and a program is being developed to bring the
traditional forklift dealer into the sales process, where we
can benefit from a customer moving from traditional lift
trucks to AGV equipment.  This will require an investment
on our part in training and perhaps additional people with
more computerized backgrounds.
The threat to our traditional business of selling forklifts
is very real.  As the technology of AGVs continues to grow,
expand, and improve, we will see these automated trucks
in applications that we would normally not consider vulnerable to this technology.  We really have no choice but to
position ourselves to turn this threat into an opportunity.
