PRESIDENT’S GET YOUR GAME ON PERSPECTIVE JERRY WEIDMAN 2013 MHEDA PRESIDENT It’s time to “Get Your Game On!” N ext month at the beautiful JW Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert, Calif., MHEDA will host its 58th annual convention and exhibitor’s showcase. I cannot encourage you enough to attend MHEDA’s convention. The theme this year is “Get Your Game On.” Michael Jordan said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” MHEDA’s distributor and supplier members are competitors who understand what it takes to “make it happen.” They celebrate their successes, learn from their mistakes, network with their peers and educate their staff. The MHEDA Convention is the capstone of MHEDA’s programming every year. This year’s convention promises to be one of our best ever. Inspiration. We will be inspired by author and guitar virtuoso Mike Rayburn, who uses his considerable talents, comedy and personal experience to help us leap beyond our perceived limitations. If you were at convention last year, you know how inspirational Mike is. Motivation. Author Garrison Wynn will tell us what the top 1 percent do differently to attain standout success. Warren Greshes, president of Speaking of Success, will teach the attitudes and skills needed to succeed in a global economy. Education. With 24 speakers, 16 presentations and six general session speakers, the educational opportunities are extraordinary. Sessions cover the spectrum of ideas and techniques we need to be on “top of our game,” from the economy to social media, from financial performance to customer service, and so much more. Collaboration (Networking). The convention brings together, for four intense days, hundreds of material handling professionals, distributors and suppliers alike. Their experience spans generations. There is no better place and no better time to learn from your peers, share your experiences, and build friendships that will last a lifetime. More than 80 supplier members participate in our showcase. Celebration. All of this is taking place at the JW Marriott, a vibrant oasis in the desert. This five-star hotel is located in the beautiful Coachella Valley of Riverside County in Palm The theme this year is “Get Your Game On.” Michael Jordan said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” Desert, Calif., with sunshine 350 days a year and high temperatures in the 80s to low 90s during the day and high 60s to low 70s at night. Make sure to bring your spouse or significant other; there are activities planned especially for them. The MHEDA convention offers a wonderful blend of business and pleasure. You can participate in golf at a championship course, tour the air museum with former Navy pilot and MHEDA member Howard Bernstein, tour celebrity homes or just relax by the pool. The convention opens with a sports night and closes with “Club MHEDA,” featuring the comedy of Jeff Havens and the music of one of MHEDA’s favorite bands, the “Heroes.” For the last 15 years, the MHEDA Convention has been a highlight of the year for my wife Kim and I. We make our reservations early and plan our time thoughtfully. We have developed many friendships over the years and participate in many of the social activities to share time with our friends and to meet new people. We attend the general sessions together and I attend the workshops that will provide our company with the best value. MHEDA members represent the best of the material handling industry.
