CONvENTiON kEynoTE SpEaKEr Teamwork and Personal Accountability Major Dan Rooney discusses how a guiding philosophy founded on trust and personal accountability can lead to success in all aspects of life BY MA JOR DAN ROONEY, USAF AND STEVE GUGLIELMO m ajor Dan Rooney of the United States Air Force is the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, a Fighter Pilot with three combat tours in Iraq, the founder of the Patriot Golf club, a PGA Professional, and author of A Patriot's Calling -Living Life between Fear and Faith. Major Rooney will be giving this year's Keynote Presentation at the MHEDA convention on Monday, May 2nd at 8:00 a.m. at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland. Major Rooney was kind enough to speak with The MHEDA Journal about his presentation, "A Patriot's calling: Leadership, Teamwork and Sacrifice." Convention Speaker 34 MHEDA | The MHEDA Journal: could you give readers a preview of some of the things that you will be discussing at convention? Major Rooney: It's really going to be a compilation of stories. I found very early on that you can tell somebody all of the facts that you want and they might learn it. You can tell them the truth and they might believe you. But if you tell them a story, that's what changes people's hearts and minds. That's what we're programmed to listen to. I've been really blessed to have lots of incredible people and experiences cross my path. There's a term that I use called synchronicity and I define that as "chance with a purpose." In all of our lives there are people and experiences that are placed in our path that are guiding us to discover who we are at our essence and what our calling is in life. I will share some stories from my life, from being a fighter pilot and serving our country and some lessons I've learned from that world I live in, which is built on a foundation of trust and accountability. TMJ: You've talked about the importance of personal accountability in our lives. can you expand on that and why it's so important? MR: It's understanding that, regardless of your intentions or your inspiration, if you fail to do something those intentions are meaningless.
