The Value of Being a MHEDA Member A MHEDA member shares his views on the importance of membership BY TOM REDDON C ountless companies that trade in the material handling industry are proud members of MHEDA, the lone trade association that dedicates itself exclusively to improving the aptitude of equipment distributors in the material handling industry. Members of MHEDA have access to various resources that aid in distributor improvement. The following resources are available to members: metrics and benchmarking, continuing training and education, detailed industry reports, industry information and publications. The benefits of joining MHEDA include: Discounts that Save Money Discounts include reduced rates for the processing of credit card transactions, human resource solutions, freight shipping, teleconferencing, education, publications and mystery shopping. News and Information Twice a month, members receive an e-newsletter. This newsletter, The MHEDA Connection, contains information and news on current events and programming in the industry. Members also receive the MHEDA Journal on a quarterly basis. This comprehensive document includes detailed articles about sales success stories, highly innovative business solutions, technology, industry events, human resources and more. Visibility for Your Business Members are listed in a directory that is made available annually by MHEDA. Each member receives a link to their company that can be added to the Member Directory Search. When a customer types in the search phrase “Material Handling Equipment,” your company’s website link will be highest in the search engine results. Resources Offered Members of MHEDA have instant access to a vast range of resources that can assist you with your daily business requirements. Guidance Offered Members are able to contact board members of MHEDA via the column “Ask Your Board” for a professional opinion concerning certain business issues. Networking Opportunities Popular programs, such as MHEDA-NET, offer networking opportunities to professionals in the material handling industry. Many distributor members from non-competing markets use this program to meet via teleconference on a regular basis. They use the time to discuss different industry topics with one another. Compensation and Financial Reports Educational Events The Annual Exhibitors’ Convention and Showcase Members gain access to various educational events throughout the year. These events deal with topics relevant to the industry. Some of these events are free. Members are able to utilize the available compensation and financial reports for business benchmarking and planning. Each new member receives a free copy of these reports, as well as instructions on how to use the reports correctly when they join MHEDA. Easy Access During this annual educational event, MHEDA provides a forum for key players in the industry of material handling to convene and discuss new products, business solutions and the latest trends.
