It's calculated on the vertical space between beam levels, as well as the frame's construction. Adding levels can increase capacity. Generally, the less space between beams, the more weight the rack can hold. What's the Capacity? Know before you load Your rack is designed to support a specific load in a specific configuration. If you don't see its capacities posted on your rack, find the manufacturer specs. Weight isn't Just Weight. Okay - you've found the specs, but do you understand them? Before you load, you must understand how capacities are calculated and applied. It's not cut and dried, so be thorough. Beam Capacity Beams are rated by the pair, and for evenly distributed loads. If the load requires support (like decks), this can reduce the listed capacity.
