EDITOR'S NOTE

FUN IN PHOENIX
JEANIE J. CLAPP

W

elcome to the March/April issue of
Fencepost, our post-FENCETECH
edition. While it's been more than
a month since we left Phoenix, the
benefits remain.
Those who attended some of the education sessions are probably busy implementing best practices
in the office or in the field. Those who went to any of
the schools are putting those techniques learned to
good use and practical application. And those who
procured materials or equipment from the show
floor could be putting them into the ground or anxiously awaiting their arrival. All three scenarios
are direct results of attending FENCETECH 2018.
For those who have never been to AFA's annual
tradeshow, I hope the pages of this magazine depict
a clear picture of the fun, the pride, and the importance of such an event. It is not only about buying
new hardware or discovering a new trend in your
niche of the industry. It's about the fine people we
call AFA members and the work they do on behalf
of the industry as well as the association.
On pages 46-51, you'll read about the impressive
awards given out at the Annual Meeting & Awards
Breakfast - recognition for industry work that goes
above and beyond the scope of one's day and one's
responsibility.
On page 51, you'll see the good work the AFA
Education Foundation is doing through the scholarships they gave out this year.

And the best way for members to get a snapshot
of the show may be to actually see - well, a few
snapshots. Our ON THE FENCE section and the
accompanying recap on pages 28-35 depict the
great camaraderie, the hard work and the loads of
fun that reverberated throughout the halls of the
Phoenix Convention Center.
It was great fun meeting new people at
FENCETECH. As someone who's still new to the
fencing industry, I find members' stories fascinating and enjoy hearing them talk about their projects
or business practices and watching exhibitors demonstrate their equipment. I meet more people each
year and come home with a wealth of knowledge
every time.
In addition to catching up on FENCETECH
2018, be sure to read up on the latest in pool safety
on pages 40-45. After all, swim season is just
around the corner, and your work on customers'
pools will help keep them and their families safe
this summer and beyond. What could be more
important than that?
Also near and dear to customers' hearts are
the family pets. "Canine Cribs," our feature story
on pages 38-39, covers innovations in kennels
and crates.
Please enjoy this issue of Fencepost. As always,
I welcome your feedback, story pitches and
author contributions. You may contact me at
