EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

REWARDING

The AFA leadership
and staff want to send
a sincere THANK YOU
to those exhibitors
and attendees that
made FENCETECH 2018
in Phoenix a hugely
successful event.

ENCETECH 2018 held in Phoenix, Arizona
was just that! REWARDING is what I and
so many others took away from this event.
On every level, this event was a SUCCESS,
and those there were REWARDED for
their attendance. This was the second year that
American Fence Association (AFA) and National
Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association
(NOMMA) co-located and made another huge
industry impact. The positive feedback that everyone shared was tremendous, and the excitement
that began in San Antonio last year increased in
Phoenix, and it will only continue to improve our
industry and do so collectively.
There was another jam-packed schedule for all
attendees, especially the education sessions. The
sessions provided this year were geared toward
the contractor, and all efforts to bring something
REWARDING and of VALUE was our main objective. I had numerous education attendees state that
this year's sessions really made a positive impact on
how they would be looking at their business when
they returned home.
Attendance records were shattered for most
sessions - many were at full capacity. Some
had more than 100 attendees, and others were
at full capacity with standing room only. The
business-related sessions - Estimating, Marketing,
Warranties, Workers' Compensation, Prevailing
Wage, Professionalism, Lease or Buy, and
Impacting Sales Outcomes - were just a few that
were at full capacity. The Train, Retain and Grow
session and Efficiencies to Boost Your Bottom Line
had more than 100 attendees. All the sessions were
highly rated by those who attended.
Of course, as with any FENCETECH, the Gate
Operator sessions had great attendance too. More
and more fence companies are diversifying into

Gate Operator installation, and AFA is proud to
bring these sessions to FENCETECH each year.
Preliminary attendance numbers show we are
very close to the same numbers as Nashville and
San Antonio which exceeded 4,300 attendees. The
show floor had 305 exhibitors, and it was refreshing to hear them talk about constant activity in
their booths and with their personnel. The comments I heard indicated that the quality of the
leads obtained throughout the event was the best in
several years. The Wednesday night Kick Off Party
sponsored by Southwest Automated Security was
well-attended, and everyone had an exciting time
with the Kristy Dee Band performing!
Mr. Barry Willingham, President/CEO of
Ameristar Perimeter Security USA, a group brand
of ASSA ABLOY Corporation, delivered an awesome and heartfelt message to everyone in attendance
about making a positive difference. The message he
delivered challenged everyone to "get comfortable
being uncomfortable," and the content provided
every business owner and individual a motivational
approach to making change work and having success.
The AFA leadership and staff want to send
a sincere THANK YOU to those exhibitors
and attendees that made FENCETECH 2018 in
Phoenix a hugely successful event.
Planning has already begun for FENCETECH
2019 in Indianapolis. This event will expand the
co-locate relationships to include the International
Door Association. We are confident this event will
set all-time records for exhibitor and attendee participation. Please save the dates for March 13-16,
2019. Events will take place March 13-16, and the
exhibit will be open March 15-16, 2019.
Please join me in 2018 by supporting our association and industry and helping with all aspects of
finding REWARDS all year long! ■
