...HIS IMPACT EXCEEDS THE BOUNDARIES
OF THE FOREST COMMUNITY...HE HAS
LONG BEEN AN AMBASSADOR FOR
AGRICULTURE AND HAS REPRESENTED
THE INDUSTRY WITH HIS TRADEMARK
INTEGRITY AND INGENUITY. HIS
CONTRIBUTIONS WILL INFLUENCE
FORESTRY, AGRICULTURE AND FLORIDA
FOR GENERATIONS TO COME."
- MICHAEL DOONER
William Cook, past president of the Association and current member of its
board of directors, was inducted into the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame on
February 14, 2017.

WILLIAM COOK OF Callahan Timber
Co., LLC was officially inducted into the
Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame Tuesday,
February 14, 2017. Past president and
longtime member of the Florida Forestry
Association Board of Directors, he is also
the recipient of the Association's Living
Legend Award.
Forestry has been more than a career
for Cook; it has been his lifelong passion.
He has spent most of his 87 years in the
timber business. He began his career in
the turpentine log business with his Uncle
Henry in 1946 and became president of
Callahan Timber Company in 1965. His
career, which includes several acquisitions and a merger, culminated in serving as the chairman of the board for Great
South Timber & Lumber, LLC., a position
he still holds.
For more than five decades, Cook personified the leadership, innovation and
integrity needed by the forest industry as

it grew. He always led by example, making sure that his companies stayed on the
cutting edge of the available technology.
In a period when specialization was the
norm, he diversified, expanding business
scopes as well as locations. By doing so,
he changed the industry paradigm.
Cook served as president of the
Florida Forestry Association in 1989-90;
he has been an active member on the
organization's board of directors since
1974. During his tenure on the board and
as president, he has always been known
for putting the interests of the forestry
community as a whole above his own
individual interests.
In addition to his success in business,
Cook has succeeded personally as well.
His life demonstrates the values that agriculture embraces. His love of country led
him to serve four years in the Korean War.
His love of family made him a devoted
husband, father and grandfather. Married

more than 60 years to the love of his life,
Betty Pickett Cook, who died in 2013, he
is father to two and grandfather to three.
His younger son, Robert P. "Bob"
Cook, is also a past president of the
Association, making them the only father
and son duo to have held the position.
Bob Cook serves as president of Great
South Timber & Lumber, LLC.
"Mr. Cook has been honored as a
Living Legend by the Association, but
I believe his impact exceeds the boundaries of the forest community," said
Association President Michael Dooner.
"He has long been an ambassador for
agriculture and has represented the
industry with his trademark integrity and
ingenuity. His contributions will influence
forestry, agriculture and Florida for generations to come."
Congratulations to Mr. William Cook
on this tremendous and well-deserved
honor! *
