At the State Fairgrounds in Tampa, FFS Wildland Firefighter briefs the Arizona Task
Force One USAR.

and then immediately gave each IMT
an emergency response or recovery
assignment. The four IMTs, staffed by
114 FFS personnel, fulfilled the following assignments:
* Blue and Gold IMTs provided
leadership and support to Urban
Search and Rescue (USAR) teams,
which located people, extracted
them and then medically stabilized
them. Most Hurricane Irma search
and rescue cases were people who
had become trapped in structural
collapses during the storm. The
Blue IMT supported USARs in the
northern part of the state, where
areas were impacted by heavy
flooding. The Gold IMT supported
USARs in south Florida, where heavy
winds resulted in many structural
collapses.
* The Green IMT was deployed to Lee
County, one of the hardest hit areas
in Florida. It managed the logistical staging area (LSA) in Lehigh
Acres, which was the central point
of intake for all relief supplies such
as tarps, ice, food and water. The
Green IMT was not only responsible for receiving these supplies,
but also redistributing them to the
optimal locations across southwest
Florida based on citizens' needs.
By the end of its assignment, the
FFS Green Team had dispatched
150 trucks. These trucks had carried more than six million pounds
of relief supplies - including the
most frequently requested supply,
which was ice - to various locations
in southwest Florida.

* FFS' Red IMT was deployed to the hardest hit
area, the Florida Keys. Much like the Green
IMT, the Red IMT managed logistics for trucks
carrying relief supplies, thus ensuring they
were routed to residents as efficiently as possible. This mission was highly challenging due
to the detailed logistics; it required locating
and coordinating trucks to provide supplies
for more than 50,000 residents in an area that
was largely under water immediately after
Irma. The Red IMT also ensured residents'
safe and efficient re-entry in an area where
one-fourth of homes were destroyed, creating
