Food Shippers of America Meets for Annual Conference

F

ood Shippers of America held its 63rd Annual

Conference from March 11th through the 13th at
the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in
Phoenix, Arizona. This year brought more than

1,100 attendees to the event.

Kicking off the conference was
the Food Shippers of America Golf
Tournament, which was held on the
Faldo and Palmer Signature Courses
of Wildfire Golf Club. Tournament
awards were presented at the end of
the educational sessions on Monday,
March 12.

Later came an afternoon tea for women
in the supply chain community and
a First Time Attendee Reception out
on the beautiful Sunset Lawn, which
brought a number of people new to the
conference to network and meet peers
in the industry. Later, all attendees
were free to mingle at the Welcome

Conference registration opened
following the tournament, along with
an information desk for those taking
advantage of the conference app.
Nearly 80 percent of attendees used
the app, which featured a wealth
of information regarding speakers,
attendees, educational sessions and
conference sponsors.
Following a networking luncheon on
the Ballroom Lawn, the conference's
first day also featured the inaugural
appearance of a session designed to
give newcomers a chance to meet and
ask questions of the association's
current officers and board members.

meeting new contacts and catching up
with old friends in the industry.
Monday's educational sessions kicked
off with a welcome and opening
comments from Food Shippers of
America President Kelly Stoeckigt,
Senior Transportation Analyst at
Johnsonville Sausage, LLC, who
introduced the conference co-chairs,
Cori Purrington, Sr. Director of
Transportation at C&S Wholesale/ES3,
and Chris Wilkes, Manager, Strategic
Business Development at Yusen
Logistics (America), Inc.
Following the opening comments, Food
Shippers of America Treasurer Nancy
Newbourne, Director of Inventory
Planning at Batory Foods, presented the
John J. Murphy Scholarship to Megan
Sinik and recognized all the other 2018
scholarship award recipients.

In the first session of the day, keynote
speaker Robyn Benincasa fired up
the crown with her motivational talk,
"How Far Would You Go to Unlock
Your True Leadership Potential?"
Benincasa, who competed in and won
grueling team-based extreme sports
challenges, spoke about the hardships
and obstacles she and her team had to
overcome in order to succeed.
