and GenZ begins with a robust
on-boarding program, says Freeman.
"We have outlined clear career
paths that include what you need
to accomplish and learn in order to
progress. We also focus on leadership
and management development,
so our leaders are really good at
providing coaching and feedback to our
employees to help them grow."
C.H. Robinson and many other
corporations nationwide have also
been more effectively teaming up with
higher education institutions across
the U.S. Together, these partnerships
are developing curricula that ensure the
current Millennial and upcoming GenZ

workforces will develop the skills that
companies value, explains Kingshuk K.
Sinha, professor and chair of the Supply
Chain and Operations Department at
the University of Minnesota's Carlson
School of Management.
"To further develop Millennials already
working in the supply chain, we've
worked with our industry partners-
including C.H. Robinson-to co-create
and launch a one-year Master of
Science degree in supply chain
management in 2016," he notes.

GenZ, the same type of curriculum is
taught, he adds, with an emphasis on
translating this generation's desire for
access to information into a skillset
for problem solving. "We provide them
opportunities to do as much analytics
as students in the master's program,
as well as offer them immersion into
global supply chain challenges as well
as help connect them to the societal
wellbeing that the industry supports,"
he says.

Specifically targeted to working
professionals seeking to accelerate
their careers, the program helps
students "develop their ability to
think strategically, end-to-end across
firm and country boundaries; design
win-win propositions for supply chain
partners; and both lead and execute
supply chain initiatives by using data
and analytics," Sinha continues.

Hopper agrees with this educational
approach. "Both Millennials and
GenZ are energized by work that
serves a greater purpose and makes
the world a better place. Generally
speaking, however, Millennials prefer
collaborative work that addresses the
big picture, while GenZ prefers more
independent work-built on intensive
information gathering-that addresses
more discrete components of the big
picture," he says.
